Teaching baseball and softball skills to inner-city youth.

The Community Baseball Academy of Kansas City (CBAKC), a nonprofit organization–developed by Don Motley, coach, manager and scout for more than 50 years; and his grandson, Brittan Motley, who played professionally with the San Diego Padres organization and is a part-time Kansas City Royals scout–will use baseball and softball as a productive outlet year-round to teach life skills to boys and girls, ages 5 through 18, that will benefit them throughout their lives.

The CBAKC will use baseball and softball as tools to inspire children and provides academic instruction and tutoring to help them earn scholarships to colleges and universities and become successful adults.

    Our Goals are to:

    * Address the lack of baseball training for the low-income, economically deprived youth residing in the greater metropolitan Kansas City area
    * Provide inner-city youth a recreational, physical and educational alternative when school is not in session
    * Promote confidence and empowerment by developing skills that will lead to their long-term success and productivity
    * Build a positive social network that fosters camaraderie and personal accomplishment and builds confidence and self-esteem
    * Provide positive guidance and support
Enable participants to excel athletically and academically beyond their expectations
    * Provide trained youth development professionals (coaches, former baseball players, physical education teachers, educators etc.), to assist participants in their athletic and academic development
    * Offer this program at no cost or at a reduced cost, based on the participant’s ability to pay
