NEWARK – These days she’s a dedicated and accomplished softball coach. But there was a time Shelby McCombs had a very different goal.
“During college, I wanted to be a pediatric oncologist,” she explained. “I’ve always loved kids and knew I wanted to work with them. I loved being in the hospital setting and wanted to make a difference in the lives of those that needed it most. My thought was always I would never want them to ever think of anything negative or feel sadness because I knew I could help brighten their day and make them laugh.”
Brighten their day and make them laugh? Mission accomplished – just in a very different setting. McCombs is now owner of McCombs Elite Fastpitch (and that includes lead pitching instructor). MORE
